50,000 lights to be installed in Nerima Gardens for Christmas Wonderland

JUST one week remains until the wraps come off the centrepiece of this year’s Christmas in Ipswich celebrations – Christmas Wonderland in Nerima Gardens.

The enchanting light display will return for 10 nights from Friday, 13 December.

Christmas Wonderland was first held last year and proved popular, with almost 15,000 people visiting in the lead up to Christmas.

Ipswich City Council Interim Administrator Greg Chemello said Christmas Wonderland would be bigger and better this year.

“Last year we had 20,000 lights throughout the Japanese-style Nerima Gardens at Queens Park,” he said.

“This year we have enlisted the help of a highly regarded design consultant to make Christmas Wonderland even more spectacular for visitors.

“Visitors can expect glittering lights, illuminated trees, Instagram worthy displays, light tunnels and projections, with 50,000 lights to be placed throughout the gardens.”

Entry to Christmas Wonderland is free, with people welcome to attend as many nights as they like.

Christmas Wonderland will be bigger and better this year, with 50,000 lights to be installed in Nerima Gardens.

There will be food trucks, Christmas stalls and roving entertainers outside Christmas Wonderland from 6pm, with the gates to the light display in Nerima Gardens open from 7.15pm.

Mr Chemello said Christmas Wonderland was part of an exciting Christmas in Ipswich line-up.

“As well as Christmas Wonderland, your council is supporting a range of community festive celebrations, the annual Christmas lights competition and a New Year’s Eve celebration,” he said.

“This Christmas we have also launched a first for Queensland with the citywide Finding Santa augmented reality trail. More than 10,000 people have already interacted with the project.

“Santa and his friends are hanging out at 40 locations across the city waiting to be found simply by downloading the Finding Santa app and using your smartphone or tablet.”
