Bringing performing arts to places you wouldn’t expect, some you might and others you can’t see without a special headset, Anywhere Festival is ready and raring for its tenth and biggest year.
The Brisbane-born festival first started in May 2011 and this year welcomes Ipswich and the Moreton Bay region into the fold, with a record program proffering approximately 655 performances of 132 different shows from an estimated 800 performance makers between 6 and 23 May.
Anywhere Festival features comedy, circus, cabaret, immersive, online, from around the world, virtual reality, theatre, music, dance, spoken word and even a little bit of magic.
Ipswich Mayor Teresa Harding said that council is delighted to support Anywhere Festival and empower the Ipswich creative sector.
“I am thrilled that organisers have put together such a diverse program delivering a range of inspiring performances in unique locations by our local producers and performance makers,” Mayor Harding said.
“Events like Anywhere Festival showcase the creative sector’s contribution to Ipswich, providing jobs and making our city vibrant and highly liveable.
“Poets, comedians, musicians, theatre groups, circus performers, dancers and storytellers will take over Top of Town, Ipswich Central and local nooks and crannies.”
The Ipswich program of Anywhere Festival is co-funded by Ipswich City Council and the Regional Arts Development Fund. The Regional Arts Development Fund is a partnership between the Queensland Government and Ipswich City Council to support local arts and culture in regional Queensland.
This year’s full program was revealed on Friday 26 March. It is available here.
