ANZAC Day March 2024 returning through city centre

Last year's ANZAC Day March returned to the city heart for the first time since the opening of Tulmur Place in the Nicholas Street Precinct.

The community will come together to commemorate the sacrifices of those who serve our nation in this year’s Ipswich ANZAC Day March through the heart of the city.

Ipswich Mayor Teresa Harding said the route is chosen each year in consultation with the Ipswich RSL Sub-Branch.

“Residents endorsed last year’s route with their presence as thousands of people lined Brisbane and Nicholas streets through the city centre and we are proud to be able to support the Ipswich RSL Sub-Branch with this request again this year,” Mayor Harding said.

“ANZAC Day services will require road closures and diversions will be in place so motorists need to be aware that some roads in Ipswich Central will be required for the Main March, which will step off at 10.45am from the junction of Brisbane Street and Waghorn Street.

“The march will end at Tulmur Place, Ipswich Central and free parking will be available in the Nicholas Street Precinct carpark adjacent to the Bradfield Bridge.”

Local marches and services will be held across the region ensuring residents will be able to find a commemorative event near them on Thursday 25 April.

Dawn services will be held at Brassall, Bundamba, Goodna, the RSL Memorial Gardens, Redbank Plains and Rosewood as well as other events at Booval, Springfield Central, Redbank, West Ipswich/One Mile, Marburg, Pine Mountain and Woodend.

Roads closed during this year’s main Ipswich march includes parts of Waghorn Street, Darling Street East and Ellenborough Street as well as the parade route down Brisbane Street from Burnett Street to Nicholas Street and Nicholas Street between Brisbane Street and Union Place. Closures will be in place from 6.30am with the last road being open by noon.
