Behind the Screens: You’ll find cinema screens!

It’s almost possible to smell the popcorn in the air with cinema operator HOYTS installing the first two of six cinema screens at the Nicholas Street Venue building in recent weeks.

As the cinema ‘boxes’ take shape and look more like a movie theatre every day, the HOYTS Treat Street and Arties’ Bar area is also being prepared, ready to serve the first popcorn box, ice-cold drink and choc top later this year.

Amenities for the Venue entertainment hub are nearing completion with joinery getting underway, and the stairs from level 1 down to the affectionately-known ‘dance floor’ are now in place, following the earlier installation of escalators.

Paint rollers are moving in with the show-stopping skylight in the atrium now formed and ready for painting, and scaffolding has started to be dismantled from the corner of Brisbane and Ellenborough streets so the façade painting scope can be completed.

The last remaining concrete pour has now been completed, a signal of moving from construction to preparing for tenancies to start moving in. Walls for each space are now all framed and ready for sheeting, and the lift for the two-level venue is currently being installed, with commissioning to commence in the coming weeks.

The vision for the Nicholas Street Venue building is coming to life behind the safety screens.

Last month, General Public confirmed they will be bringing their ‘eatertainery’ concept to the ground floor of the Nicholas Street Venue entertainment hub, including state-of-the-art arcade games, tenpin bowling lanes, golf simulators, and billiards tables, plus food and licensed drinking spots scattered throughout to keep energies up between games.

General Public will occupy almost 3,000 square metres of entertainment space on the ground floor, but there’s still so much to look forward to as up to 10 tenancies in total come on board in the lead up to the grand opening later this year.  The multimillion-dollar redevelopment will be Ipswich’s largest entertainment hub, with 12,500 square meters of multiple leisure and hospitality businesses across two levels.

Join us in a fortnight for our next update on the other signature project underway in the Nicholas Street Precinct – a new era of the iconic Hotel Commonwealth.
