Big plans for Ipswich’s newest community centre

The roots of community continue to take hold at Ripley with a new community hub opened recently.

The hub, called Minka Place, is in the new Ripley Town Centre.

The building was previously used as the Ecco Ripley sales office before it was relocated to the town centre.

Minka Place, meaning ‘House of the People’, is a multi-purpose space providing a range of activities that promote health, well-being, interaction and creativity, specifically tailored to a range of age groups.

The shared community facility is a joint project from developer Sekisui House, Ipswich City Council and Economic Development Queensland.

Member for Ipswich Jennifer Howard officially opened Minka Place and said it was a space for the community to build strong connections.

“Minka Place will cater to the varying and growing needs of the local community, and further galvanise the Ripley region’s position as a booming part of south-east Queensland,” she said.

Sekisui House CEO and managing director Toru Abe, Member for Blair Shayne Neumann, Member for Ipswich Jennifer Howard and Ipswich City Council Interim Administrator Greg Chemello celebrate the opening of Minka Place.

“It will provide an excellent space for locals and promote a sense of inclusiveness in the community by providing a venue and activities for everyone, from school-aged children to our seniors and local community groups.”

Sekisui House CEO and managing director Toru Abe said the opening of Minka Place was a significant milestone in providing necessary social infrastructure to the Ripley community.

“Early delivery of key community infrastructure and place-making are significant driving forces in developing a strong and connected community in the Ripley region,” he said.

“Minka Place is testament to this and an important milestone for the community and Ripley Town Centre.

“Mink Place will provide 200 square metres of open space with the inclusion of a kitchenette, flexible office spaces and greenspace, offering a range of activities from playgroups and workshops to fitness classes and social gatherings – a true multifaceted, shared community space.”
