Pool users at Bundamba can now dive in to a safer swim with refurbished starting blocks improving safety.
Ipswich Mayor Teresa Harding said the refurbished starting blocks would provide a safer swimming experience for users.
“These starting blocks have been retrofitted with modern, high-grip, adjustable platforms that will allow swimmers under instruction to practice their diving with greater ease, and benefit swim competitions held at this much-loved pool,” Mayor Harding said.
“I’m pleased Woogaroo Swim Club received $15,000 in community grant funding from council to deliver these retrofitted diving blocks.
“Bundamba Swim Centre is one of Ipswich’s most popular pools, with swimmers young and old enjoying its heated 50 metre and 20 metre pools.”
Division 3 Councillor Marnie Doyle said council was focused on delivering projects that would improve the functionality and safety of community facilities.
“We know that Ipswich residents are keen swimmers all year round, whether in our icy mornings now or the long hot days of summer,” Cr Doyle said.
“These upgrades will allow more residents to enjoy a modern, safe swimming and diving environment at Bundamba Swim Centre.
“The upgrades mean the eight starting blocks will be in place well ahead of the summer swimming season when our pools are in high demand.
“Working with community clubs to ensure our facilities meet the needs of residents is a council priority and I look forward to seeing more swimmers of all ages enjoying this upgrade to Bundamba Swim Centre.”
