Changes to mobile nursery service

Council’s Free Plant Program and a mobile nursery will be setting up in a suburb near you.

Goodna Mobile Nursery Service will close its doors on Wednesday 25 March due to low customer numbers.

Residents can still get their yearly free plan allocation from the Queens Park Nursery, which is open year round.

There are 20 mobile nurseries each year, which operate on selected Saturday mornings from 8 – 11am at various locations across Ipswich.

Customer numbers at the Goodna Mobile nursery have remained in the single digits, sharply lower than the average of 75 to 100 customers that visit other mobile nursery services.

Council gives away up to 120,000 plants each year, with plant species grown at council’s nursery to suit local climate and soil conditions.

General homeowners and renters are entitled to six free plants each financial year under council’s Free Plant Program.

Owner occupiers of newly built homes (under 12 months old) are entitled to a one-off allocation of 25 plants in addition to their six free plants a year when they bring in their Certificate of Occupancy (Form 21).

For more information on how you can claim your free yearly allocation of plants, visit Ipswich.qld.gov.au/freeplants.
