CMC Rocks secured for another four years

IPSWICH will be home to CMC Rocks QLD until at least 2022.

The city has secured the biggest international country music festival for another four years following a deal between Tourism and Events Queensland, Ipswich City Council and CMC Rocks.

Acting Mayor Wayne Wendt said since the festival moved to Ipswich in 2015 it had grown in stature to become the biggest country music festival in the southern hemisphere.

“The ink is barely dry on the contract, but I can confirm Ipswich will continue be home of CMC Rocks QLD until at least 2022.

“This year’s event sold out in less than one hour. It proves just how popular country music is.

“The city is right behind the event with its estimated economic boost to the local economy in the range of $10 million.

“The success of the CMC Rocks 2018 was there for everyone to see.

“The professional approach from the organisers and the incredible support of country music fans makes it a world-class event,” Cr Wendt said.

CMC Rocks CEO Matthew Lazarus-Hall said he was looking forward to continuing to grow and evolve the festival to 2022 and beyond.

“In 11 years we have come from a small 2000 people event in the Snowy Mountains to the big league in Queensland with 20,000 fans selling out the event months before the first band takes to the stage.

“CMC Rocks owes its success to the late Rob Potts. He was the one person who gathered together industry heavyweights from across the world to make this country music festival a reality.

“The new agreement between CMC Rocks, Tourism and Events Queensland and Ipswich City Council takes it to a new high, and I have no doubt that Rob would have wholeheartedly supported this.

“The fans love it and the sponsors love it. Queensland is now the home of country music in Australia,” Mr Lazarus-Hall said.

Ipswich has continued to develop and grow as a southeast Queensland destination. In 2017 total visitor arrivals were 2.6 million people worth an estimated $383 million to the region’s economy.

Tourism growth in Ipswich was driven by events such as CMC Rocks QLD, nature-based adventure and heritage attractions.
