Collect all six free heritage postcards around Ipswich

Ipswich residents and visitors will be able to collect their own set of vintage postcards, created exclusively for the city’s inaugural Galvanized heritage festival.

The six postcards feature different historic images from the Picture Ipswich collection, and will be available from the Ipswich Visitor Information Centre, Ipswich Art Gallery and all council libraries.

Ipswich Mayor Teresa Harding said each venue will feature a different postcard.

“The aim for history buffs like myself, is to collect the whole set,” Mayor Harding said.

“Galvanized will offer something for everyone and I encourage you to gather your friends and family and be transported back in time together.

“Discover local stories and images of the people who built the foundations of what Ipswich is today.”

The postcards are free and will hit the streets from 27 August to celebrate iconic venues and historic sites, while stocks last.

Galvanized will showcase the best heritage experiences and community events Ipswich has to offer across ten days.

Community, Culture, Arts and Sport Committee Chair Cr Andrew Fechner said Galvanized brings council and community groups together to showcase aspects of the city’s rich history.

“There is always more to learn about the lives and experiences of those who came before us and Galvanized events are a great opportunity to connect with community members who have fascinating knowledge of Ipswich history to share,” Cr Fechner said.

“Taking a trip into the past at festival open days, tours, demonstrations, and workshops can help us better understand the city that shapes our lives today.”

The Ipswich Galvanized heritage festival runs from 27 August to 5 September showcasing the best historical experiences and events the city has to offer.
