Council closures over Christmas and New Year

A number of Ipswich City Council services will take a short break over the Christmas and New Year period.

A number of Ipswich City Council services will take a short break over the Christmas and New Year period, while essential services including council’s emergency call centre and waste collection will remain unchanged.

Ipswich City Council acting CEO Ben Pole said the impact on residents would be minimal, while allowing a large part of council’s workforce to spend time with their family and loved ones.

“We wish the Ipswich community a safe and joyous Christmas and New Year and look forward to continuing to serve you in 2024,” Mr Pole said.

“For emergencies, council’s emergency call centre will continue to operate 24 hours a day via the usual customer service number 3810 6666.”

Any non-urgent matters can be logged any time via the online service portal
on council’s website at ipswich.qld.gov.au

The following council services will be impacted by a change of hours over the festive period.

1 Nicholas Street Administration Building

Closing: Friday, 22 December at 1pm.

Reopening: Tuesday, 2 January 2024.

Visitor Information Centre

Closed: Christmas Day, Boxing Day and Monday, 1 January 2024.

Ipswich Nature Centre

Closed: Christmas Day.

During school holidays it is open 7 days from 9.30am to 4pm.

Ipswich Art Gallery

Closing: Friday, 22 December at 1pm.

Reopening: Tuesday, 2 January 2024.

Ipswich Civic Centre, North Ipswich Reserve Corporate Centre and Studio 188

Closing: Monday, 18 December.

Reopening: Monday, 15 January 2024.

Ipswich Libraries

Closing: Friday, 22 December at 1pm.

Reopening: Tuesday, 2 January 2023.

Riverview and Rosewood Recycling and Refuse Centres

Closed: Christmas Day.

All wheelie bin collections will happen on their regular allocated weekday including Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.

Ipswich City Council swimming centres

Closed: Christmas Day.

Public holidays: Open 10am to 4pm.

Opening hours vary by centre. Please check council’s websites for details.

Queens Park Nursery

Closing: Thursday, 21 December.

Reopening: Saturday, 6 January 2024.

Queens Park Nursery does not operate on Sundays, Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays.

Ipswich City Council mobile nursery

The mobile nursery has concluded for 2023. It will resume on 3 February 2024 at Goupong Park, Collingwood Park.

Ipswich Pound and Animal Management Centre

Closed: Christmas Day.

Opening hours: 8.30am to 5pm weekdays, and 10am to 5pm on weekends or public holidays.
