Council provides grants for worthy community programs

Two community groups have received Council grants for a football program and fund-raising dinner.

Arts and Community Development Committee Chairperson Cr Kylie Stoneman said funds under the Community Development Program had gone to:

  1. St Vincent de Paul Society Queensland: $900 towards the cost of equipment and resources for its Soccer Stars Program, at St Augustine’s College during 2018-19. The program, supported by volunteers, provides young people, 8-18 years, from predominantly migrant and refugee backgrounds in Goodna and Redbank the opportunity to participate in a recreational soccer team free of charge.
  2. Cystic Fibrosis Queensland Limited: $2,145 towards the cost of meals for 35 people and associated costs of a support dinner for parents and carers of cystic fibrosis sufferers in Ipswich, at Ipswich Jets Leagues Club in mid-2018. The dinner will assist with strengthening the mental health of carers and parents through a powerful presentation from an adult with cystic fibrosis.

Cr Stoneman said the grants were for two very different events, but all worthy in terms of promoting and celebrating a sense of belonging to the Ipswich community.

“Football, the world game, will bring local people together who might otherwise have needed some financial assistance to play.

“The dinner will also provide an opportunity for carers to connect in a social environment,” she said.
