A REVIEW of Ipswich City Council’s sport event sponsorship program would offer greater assistance to local sport and recreation groups in more practical ways rather than just sponsorship.
Relevant organisations will have more options for funding under the new Sport and Recreation Funding Program.
Ipswich mayor and Works, Parks and Sport committee chairman Cr Andrew Antoniolli said the change reflected an increase in the amount of requests for help with minor infrastructure such as shade, seating and storage.
“The new program will be divided into three streams,” he said.
“Categories of event sponsorship, minor facility improvements and participation allow more flexibility in allocating funding to eligible organisations.
“The total program budget of $150,000 is planned to come into effect from 1 July 2018.”
Cr Antoniolli said the current sports events sponsorship program received slightly fewer applications to host events over time.
“Further we have seen the same events being supported each year,” Cr Antoniolli said.
“This new approach will assist a wider variety of sport and recreation organisations.”
