Denmark Hill upgrade plans progressing

Plans for upgrades to Denmark Hill Conservation Reserve are progressing, with community members invited earlier this month to offer feedback on proposed works.

The concept plans were well received.

Among ideas discussed was the opportunity to activate the area with a new boardwalk/bridge connecting the car park to the new picnic shelters and natural playground with water play and climbing elements.

Upgrade works are planned to provide better wayfinding through new interpretive signage linking the recreation area to Chelmsford Avenue and Outridge Street where additional shelters will provide respite spots for local walkers, hospital staff and visitors.

The 11.5 hectare Denmark Hill Conservation Reserve in the heart of Ipswich is steeped in history, having been founded in the 1880s.

It offers short walk trails and panoramic city and country views.

It remains sacred to the Traditional Owners of Ipswich and is a site where fossils have previously been found.

Council plans to repurpose the existing Triassic shelter as a new interactive play area with fun activities such as treasure hunts, interpretive artworks and storytelling opportunities.

The works are being funded under the Enviroplan initiative
