PETER FitzSimons, one of Australia’s most prominent and popular media and publishing identities, returns to Ipswich this month for two events.
The free Evening with Peter FitzSimons events will be held from 6pm at Ipswich Central Library on Thursday, 29 November and Springfield Central Library on Friday, 30 November.
Ipswich City Council Library Services Manager Sylvia Swalling said FitzSimons, renowned for his distinctive red bandanna, promised an enthralling conversation.
“Peter is celebrated as one of Australia’s most successful non-fiction authors and his 2018 release, Monash’s Masterpiece, joins a long list of bestselling titles including Burke and Wills, Ned Kelly, Kokoda and Tobruk,” she said.
FitzSimons grew up on the Central Coast of New South Wales as one of seven children. He attended Knox Grammar School and was an exchange student in the US before completing an arts degree at the University of Sydney.
He is a former national representative rugby union player, has been chair of the Australian Republic Movement since 2015 and works as a journalist, radio and television presenter and author.
His service to literature as a biographer, sports journalist and commentator as well as his contributions to community conversations on disability care, social welfare and sport saw him awarded a Member of the Order of Australia.
“Ipswich Libraries is proud to host two Evenings with Peter FizSimons and both will be Auslan interpreted,” Mrs Swalling said.
“Past ‘Evening with’ events with Matthew Reilly and Judy Nunn have been very well received.
“An Evening with Peter FitzSimons will be no exception.”
