Dig out your Christmas lights and decorations – entries are now open for the annual City of Ipswich Christmas Lights Competition presented by Narellan Pools Ipswich.
Ipswich Mayor Teresa Harding said the call had gone out for residents to decorate their homes and businesses.
“Ipswich is renowned for having some of the most unique and awe-inspiring light installations in South East Queensland, delighting residents and visitors alike each festive season,” Mayor Harding said.
“It is always exciting to see household and business Christmas light displays pop up across the city.
“The City of Ipswich Christmas Lights Competition is a wonderful festive tradition with entries now open for this year’s competition until 9am on Friday 28 November.
“The opening this year’s Christmas lights competition is a precursor to an exciting citywide Christmas in Ipswich program which will be unwrapped for all to see when the full program goes live on the Ipswich Festivals website in mid-November.”
There are five competition categories this year:
- Best Residential presented by STRUD
- Best Business/Organisation presented by Event Cinemas Springfield
- Best Street presented by Stockland
- Best New Entry presented by G.J. Gardner Homes Ipswich
- People’s Choice presented by Aussie Homes Ipswich

Economic and Cultural Development Committee Chairperson Councillor Pye Augustine said she could not wait to see the light displays put together by locals.
“Ipswich has a rich and deep sense of community which really comes to the fore during this time of the year as neighbourhoods gather to spread festive cheer,” Cr Augustine said.
“Entry in the City of Ipswich Christmas Lights Competition is once again free, quick and easy.
“Winners will share in over $8,000 worth of prices and all entrants will have the chance to win one of five $200 vouchers for General Public in the Nicholas Street Precinct.
“And of course, the popular People’s Choice award is back again, with voting to take place from 1 to 9 December.”
