Five-year plan guiding Ipswich to be a city of opportunity for all

Ipswich City Council has a new five-year plan.

Ipswich City Council has set out a five-year plan focused on value-for-money services for the community and responsible growth management in line with the 20-year vision.

Ipswich Mayor Teresa Harding said council’s new Corporate Plan 2026-2031 reflected the city’s status as the fastest-growing in Queensland, with its population set to double to 533,000 by 2046.

“Our responsibility as a council is clear: to manage the challenges and harness the opportunities brought by our rapid growth and reputation as a liveable, family-friendly city,” Mayor Harding said.

“This five-year plan outlines our strategic priorities that supports growth which is sequenced and sustainable to address the challenges of managing rapid population growth alongside delivering the infrastructure and community services needed to protect our enviable lifestyle.

“Built around four themes—Vibrant and Growing; Safe, Inclusive and Creative; Natural and Sustainable; and A Trusted and Leading Organisation—the corporate plan provides a community-focused strategic direction to prepare for and manage growth.

“I am confident Ipswich City Council’s five-year plan clearly sets our city further along our path to becoming a city of opportunity for all.”

Deputy Major Nicole Jonic said the Corporate Plan 2026-2031 builds on the progress made to the community’s vision under council’s previous five-year plan, focused on careful management of resources and projects to deliver priorities efficiently.

Progress on the plan’s targets will be reported to the community through council’s annual report each year.

“Community confidence in council and its services is strengthened not only by clear goals, but also by transparency and consistency,” Deputy Major Jonic said.

“This plan includes measurable deliverables and goals that are realistic, practical, and functional. I look forward to seeing our city grow and develop over the next five years under this plan.”
