Free green waste disposal weekends for Ipswich residents

Ipswich residents and ratepayers are being offered two weekends of free green waste disposal.

Ipswich residents and ratepayers are being offered two weekends of free green waste disposal at the city’s resource recovery centres before the end of the year.

Ipswich City Council Environment and Sustainability Committee Chairperson Councillor Jim Madden said it was the perfect opportunity to sort backyards out for the warmer months and get ready for storm season.

“Now is the time to get ready for disasters, prepare your yard and start your clean up with free green waste weekends,” Cr Madden said.

“Ipswich City Council is offering free green waste disposal to help residents help sort out garden waste, free with proof of Ipswich residency, such as your rates notice, driver’s licence or tenancy agreement.

“The free drop-off weekends will be held on 25 and 26 October and 8 and 9 November at both Riverview and Rosewood Resource Recovery Centres.

“These weekends are for household green waste only, commercial deliveries will still be charged.

“Accepted items include branches, leaves, grass clippings, palm fronds – but not waste such as treated timber, soil, or general rubbish.

Free green waste disposal weekends are the perfect opportunity to sort backyards out for storm season.

“Only green waste will be accepted, mixed or contaminated loads will be charged at standard rates, and a limit of 500kg free per load applies.

“Standard fees apply outside the dates of the two free green waste disposal weekends.”

Ipswich City Council uses composted material for parks and landscaping across the city.

Council is supporting residents to dispose of green waste for free, reducing illegal dumping and improving environmental outcomes.

This initiative is aligned with council’s Waste and Circular Economy Transformation Directive and broader Resource Recovery Strategy.
