Ahoy there, matey. There is treasure hidden in a giant sandpit in the Ipswich Art Gallery’s Treasure Hunt these school holidays.
Taking eye spy to the next level, jewels, gems and other treasures will be buried in 21 cubic metres of sand transforming d’Arcy Doyle Place until July 10.
Community, Culture, Arts and Sport Committee Chair Councillor Andrew Fechner said the Treasure Hunt is a real gem of an activity for the school holidays.
“Tiny treasure hunters can design their own treasure bags before fossicking in the sandpit for treasures to take home,” Cr Fechner said.
“The Treasure Hunt is a great way to learn about fossicking and geology while having heaps of fun in the sand.
“The Ipswich Art Gallery continues to present a dynamic program of exhibitions for children and families attracting locals and visitors to our vibrant city.”
The Treasure Hunt will be open from 9.30am to 3.30pm each day, excluding Sundays, and is suitable for children aged three to eight.
A toddler safe area with suitable activities will be available for younger siblings under three. A parent or carer must accompany all children.
The activity costs $5 per child, which covers one treasure bag to decorate and entry to the Treasure Hunt sandpit. Admission is free for all under 3s and accompanying parents and carers.
