A revamped community centre in Goodna will see residents enjoy improved access to Ipswich City Council and community run health and wellbeing programs.
Community and Sport Committee Chairperson Councillor Jacob Madsen said council has taken on the management of the Goodna Community Centre, previously known as Goodna Cultural and Arts Centre, to better cater to the community’s health and wellbeing needs.
“The centre has been restored and renamed following damage from the 2022 floods, before which it used to be a gym on lease from council,” Cr Madsen said.
“Council will now use this space to provide and enable valuable health and wellbeing services in the area.
“Council’s popular and affordable Active and Healthy program will take centre stage here, offering activities like boxing, Pilates, mobility yoga and Zumba for a variety of ages.
“Over the past year and a half or so, council has taken on the management of other similar centres including the Redbank Plains Community Centre and the Riverview and District Community Centre facilities with great success – both centres achieving 90 per cent weekly occupancy.
“With the introduction of new programs and the revamped premises, I hope this centre can replicate that success.”
Deputy Mayor and Division 2 Councillor Nicole Jonic said she was glad to see the centre back in use.
“Council has worked closely with local health and sport stakeholders to gauge the needs of the community, tailoring offerings accordingly to fill any gaps in services,” Deputy Mayor Jonic said.
“I am looking forward to seeing the community take advantage of this wonderful centre and the programs offered within it.”
