Huge retail precinct, childcare centre and medical centre planned

A huge retail precinct, childcare centre and medical centre will be developed in Yamanto, if council approval is granted.

Yamanto Holdings Pty Ltd is seeking approval to build the single-storey complex on an 18.33ha vacant site bounded by Warwick Road, Hall Street and Saleyards Road.

The proposed development would include 19,094m2 of large format retail space, specialising in “bulky goods display” and homemaker goods, with an additional 629 m2 of other retail shops and food outlets.

An 800m2 medical centre would help to meet the “substantial increase in demand for general practitioners that will result from the future population growth,” according to the application.

A 700m2 childcare centre, which features a large 700m2 outdoor play and education space, is expected to cater for 90 children.

The proposed development is expected to create an extra 437 long-term jobs in the local area, with an additional 204 jobs during the construction phase, according to submitted reporting.

The Development Application also states that the proposed development would fill a “clear gap” in Yamanto’s retail and services sector for the region’s rapidly growing population.

“The development will provide the community with greater retail variety, increased convenience plus significant employment creation,” the application notes.

The application will be subject to public notification in due course, as part of the assessment process.
