Pass marks aplenty as Council shapes Ipswich’s transport future
The annual report card for the City of Ipswich Transport Plan (iGO) is full of pass marks.
iGO is Council’s masterplan for Ipswich’s transport future which outlines actions to advance the city’s transport network to accommodate a future population of 435,000 people.
Infrastructure and Emergency Management Committee Chairperson Cr Cheryl Bromage said the annual report card is one of the methods used by council to monitor and report on the delivery progress of iGO.
The current report card outlines significant iGO actions which have been completed and are in progress from the period January 2017 to June 2018. The major highlights from the iGO report card include:
• Completion of the corridor planning for Redbank Plains Road Stage 3 road upgrade (Keidges Rd to Kruger Pde);
• Completion of the corridor planning for Brassall Bikeway Stage 6 (W M Hughes St to Bradfield Bridge);
• Obtaining more than $2 million dollars in Queensland Government grant funding for Council’s bikeway infrastructure projects;
• Completion of detailed design for Old Toowoomba Road upgrade (Leichhardt/ One Mile);
• Completion of the detailed design for the Brisbane Street road upgrade (West Ipswich);
• Construction of the Redbank Plains Road Stage 2 road upgrade (School Rd to Cedar Rd);
• Construction of the Goodna Creek Bikeway Stage 3 (Redbank Plains Rd to Farmer Ct); and
“In addition to the projects identified in the annual report card, there are other Council programs and projects which are also working towards the implementation of iGO actions. For example, the Sustainable Transport Sub-program includes minor projects such as bus stop disability access upgrades, bicycle safe grate replacements and pedestrian kerb ramp improvements across the city, which all contribute towards various iGO actions,” Cr Bromage said.
