International delegations a chance to discuss trade and investment opportunities

Opportunities for bilateral trade and investment were the focus when two high level delegations visited Ipswich this week.

On Wednesday, Ipswich City Council welcomed His Excellency Dr Michael Pulch, European Union Ambassador in Australia. This was followed on Friday with a visit by His Excellency Dr Ajay Gondane, High Commissioner of India in Australia.

Ipswich Mayor Andrew Antoniolli said an industry roundtable was held to coincide with each of the delegations.

“Council through its Economic Development team brought together business leaders across key industries for each industry roundtable,” Cr Antoniolli said.

“This created a valuable opportunity for local companies to have direct access to the visiting diplomatic heads to discuss opportunities for collaboration, export and investment. It provides exposure to be connected to world leaders.”

Cr Antoniolli said the visits also gave Ipswich City Council a chance to promote its vision for the city.

“Ipswich is uniquely positioned as Queensland’s fastest growing city and we have a bold vision to become Australia’s most prosperous and liveable Smart City,” Cr Antoniolli said.

“To achieve this we need to create more jobs and help industries grow in our city, and strengthening relationships with international partners is one of the ways we can achieve that.

“The more people who understand our vision and the opportunities on offer in Ipswich the more likely we can build globally connected industries and secure international investment in our city.

“These are very valuable two-way conversations that not only allow locals to gain an understanding of opportunities abroad but also allow the visiting delegates to gain a deeper insight into the opportunities on offer in Ipswich.”
