Ipswich artists, help make our city a deLight!

Ipswich artists will have the opportunity to transform the Tulmur Walk building façade in the Nicholas Street Precinct into a canvas for stunning masterpieces when deLight lights up SPARK Ipswich 2025.

Ipswich Mayor Teresa Harding said deLight has become the crowning event of the annual SPARK Ipswich festival, showcasing the phenomenal creative talent in Ipswich in a unique way.

“Next year marks the fifth year since SPARK Ipswich became a key fixture on Ipswich’s art calendar,” Mayor Harding said.

“DeLight has attracted thousands over the years to see iconic buildings illuminated with beautiful displays, while enjoying live music and performances.

“SPARK Ipswich reaffirms how important the arts and culture scene is to our city and we are now accepting artist applications to take part.

“As locals, we are spoilt with so many talented artists and SPARK Ipswich gives us all a chance to appreciate their work in a unique way.

“Profiled local artists have always produced spectacular work that reflects the people and culture of our city, and I know next year will produce the same high quality.

“Expressions of Interest for artists interested in having their artworks projected as part of deLight in 2025 are now open and will close on 28 January 2025.”

Economic and Cultural Development Committee Chairperson Councillor Pye Augustine said Ipswich artists gain significant exposure from participating in deLight.

“Artists have new doors open to them as Ipswich transforms into their own vibrant outdoor gallery. Their audience is expanded and they’re able to grow their creative practice,” Cr Augustine said.

“I can only imagine how special it must be for artists to see their work glowing on Ipswich buildings and I’m excited to see the submissions that come through.”

SPARK Ipswich will be held over 10 days from 11 to 20 July 2025, showcasing the city’s people, places, arts and culture.

The selection panel will select artists based on the following criteria:

  • Artistic merit – the quality of the artwork and its potential for projection onto building surface.
  • Experience and viability – the artist’s ability to deliver the work and their track record.
  • Growth potential – the artist’s ability to leverage this opportunity to expand and develop their artistic practice either commercially or professionally.
  • Connection to the region – the artist’s relevance and connection to Ipswich or the surrounding area, if applicable.
  • Alignment with festival vision – suitability of the work for the festival’s themes, timelines, and resources.

Expressions of Interest are now open and close 9am, Tuesday 28 January. Selected artists will receive a $1,000 (including GST) commission for participating.
