Ipswich Show public holiday date claimed for 2027

The Ipswich community can make a note in their diaries for the Ipswich Show public holiday, set to be on Friday 14 May 2027.

Council voted at its June Ordinary Meeting to accept the date recommended by Ipswich Show Society.

Ipswich Mayor Teresa Harding said council would now apply to the State Government’s Office of Industrial Relations to formalise the public holiday.

“The Ipswich Show is a long-standing tradition that celebrates the people, industries and communities that make our city unique,” Mayor Harding said.

“The public holiday provides families with an opportunity to attend the show, support local exhibitors and enjoy everything this iconic event has to offer.

“The Ipswich Show delivers significant social and economic benefits, showcasing Ipswich as a vibrant place to live, work and visit.”

The Ipswich Show has been a highlight on the city’s calendar for generations, featuring agricultural displays, competitions, amusement rides, entertainment, food vendors and educational experiences that connect urban and rural communities.

Division 3 Councillor Marnie Doyle said confirmation of the 2027 public holiday will help residents and businesses prepare for the event and maximise opportunities created by increased visitation.

“The Ipswich Show is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate our local community and the strong agricultural foundations of our region,” Cr Doyle said.

“Each year the show creates opportunities for local organisations, producers and businesses to showcase their products and services to a broad audience.

“The public holiday helps ensure more people can participate, supporting attendance while delivering valuable economic activity for local businesses, hospitality venues and tourism operators.”

The Ipswich Show runs from Friday to Sunday, 14 to 16 May 2027.
