Ipswich swimming centre makes a splash with long-term lease renewal

Ipswich City Council will sign a new lease to continue operations at Rosewood Aquatic Centre.

The Rosewood Aquatic Centre will continue to provide swimming lessons and aquatic fitness classes as Ipswich City Council dives into a decade-long lease renewal.

Council has agreed to renew the lease for the popular sports and recreation business until December 2035.

Finance and Governance Committee Chairperson Councillor Paul Tully said the premises at 1 Mill Street, Rosewood, is currently leased to Australian Crawl (Goodna) Pty Ltd (ACG).

“The Rosewood Aquatic Centre operates primarily during the summer season and is managed by ACG, which also oversees other leisure and fitness centres in the region,” Cr Tully said.

“ACG facilitates swimming lessons and aquatic fitness classes from the premises, which includes two heated pools, a children’s splash zone, and an outdoor gym area.

“I’m pleased that council has approved a recommendation for a lease renewal for ACG to continue to provide the popular learn to swim lessons and group fitness classes at the Rosewood Aquatic Centre.”

The lessee is responsible for maintaining the premises in good repair throughout the term of the lease, except for fair wear and tear and replacement owing to end-of-life deterioration.

Division 4 Councillor David Martin said the community will welcome the news that they can continue to have public swimming facilities close to home.

“This ten-year lease renewal will ensure that Rosewood families can continue to embrace an active and healthy lifestyle in the water, with modern facilities and programs that cater to swimmers of all ages,” Cr Martin said.

Division 4 Councillor Jim Madden said that this lease renewal will ensure the next generation of Ipswich children can learn to be safe in and around the water.

“It’s fantastic council can continue this partnership, which will ensure that our youngest residents will become stronger swimmers with access to learn to swim classes here in Rosewood,” Cr Madden said.
