Jacaranda Festival’s purple patch

Fireworks, sideshow alley, lifestyle markets and multi-cultural food stalls will again feature at this year’s Goodna Jacaranda Festival from October 26 to 28.

Ipswich City Council event sponsorship of $8,000 and in-kind support will help this community based festival to cover costs associated with running the event.

A council spokesperson said the festival was run by the not-for-profit Goodna Community Association.

“This festival is an established and important part of Ipswich’s history. It attracts people from surrounding suburbs and from as far as Toowoomba and northern New South Wales.

“Many people look forward eagerly each year to the festival weekend.

“It brings together many community groups, service clubs and schools to create a multi-cultural event which truly showcases the talent of the local community.

“The festival is run against the purple backdrop of the avenue of Jacaranda trees on Brisbane Terrace planted by work gangs in 1932 during the Great Depression.”

The remaining trees survived the floods of 1955, 1974 and 2011.

In 2018 the event will feature favourites such as the talent show, primary school’s choir competition and a high school band competition.

Using the web based economy.id event impact calculator with 10,000 attendees per day spending approximately $30 each, the total estimated economic benefit of the 2018 festival to the wider community will be in the range of $1.3 million.
