The entertainment line-up at Studio 188 and Ipswich Civic Centre this March is massive. There is something to suit all tastes, from big name musicians to a much-loved children’s show.
Small Step (March 8)
Sit back and relax with Studio 188’s Groove & Grape series.
Small Step is a jazz trio formed in Brisbane, consisting of Dom Kingsford on bass guitar, David Watts on drums, and Kailan O’Dell on the piano. Each member not only brings their unique skills and playing styles to the group, but also a range of influences, resulting in a fresh and varied take on the electro-acoustic piano trio format.
With a library of tunes that includes original compositions and arrangements of works from a catalogue of artists stretching from Pat Metheny to Pat Benatar, Small Step embraces the traditional piano-trio instrumentation with a contemporary perspective.

Room on the Broom (March 11)
Adapted from the award winning picture book by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler, published by Macmillan Children’s books.

The Sapphires (March 21)
The Sapphires is one of Australia’s best-loved stories. Winning multiple awards as a play, film and soundtrack album there was one challenge left and that was to undertake a national tour of Australia. Bringing the raw energy, fun and emotion of this story directly to stages like Ipswich Civic Centre and across the nation. Writer Tony Briggs will direct his work in a version he promises will be the most intimate telling of The Sapphires story yet.
Four young women from regional Australia, who like singing country music, suddenly get the chance to change their tune, their clothes and their lives. Wearing uniforms of sequins, armed only with microphones they find themselves trying to spread joy in the hell that is the Vietnam War. The Sapphires is a funny, heart-warming tale inspired by the true story of writer Tony Brigg’s mother.

Barleyshakes (March 23)
Settle in for the next instalment of Studio 188’s Saturday Sessions series with Barleyshakes.
Brewed in Ireland and distilled in Australia, the Barleyshakes are a Celtic band with world music influences who combine intense energy, beautiful harmony and driving dance rhythms in their performances. Adored throughout Australia and beyond for their “bent” Irish sound, they are winners of the Queensland Music Award for World Music.

Ian Moss – National Regional Tour (March 29)
Respected as one of Australia’s iconic musicians, Ian Moss delivers an unforgettable sound – not only as a telling soloist on guitar but especially with his silken voice, ringing with clarity and resonating with pure soul. While primarily recognised as an axeman of tenacity and sweet melodic sensibility, Moss’ distinctive vocal is the essential signature of his soulful, bluesy muse – as it has been since his first tentative foray into music during the early 1970s.
Born and raised in Alice Springs, Ian started playing guitar in local teenage bands but moved to Adelaide after failing one of his high school years, planning to repeat in the big city. Fate intervened when he answered an advertisement for a guitarist in a shop window in 1973, joining the band that was to become a legend in Australia and that made such an undeniable impact that they are now etched in the Australian music psyche forever. That band was Cold Chisel.

Gold Dust Woman (March 30)
The Gold Dust Woman tribute tour is a short glimpse into the musical career of Stevie Nicks, from the start of her journey in the early days fronting the super-band Fleetwood Mac and follows on into her very successful solo career.
Not just another Fleetwood Mac tribute show, this is more of an experience through song and music, showcasing some historical and interesting facts about Stevie, Lindsay and the Fleetwood Mac family, as well as a review of her solo career highlights that helped make her the loved and revered singer/songwriter that she is today.

The Grigoryan Brothers (March 31)
Although regarded as Australia’s finest guitar duo, performing much of the instrument’s standard classical repertoire, the Grigoryan Brothers’ passion is to expand their horizons through new arrangements, their own compositions and commissions.
For this performance the Grigoryan Brothers will be performing works from their latest release, Songs Without Words, which sees a return to the classical repertoire. The program will also include other works highlighting Slava and Leonard’s diverse skills.
