Hospital wedding, a moment to cherish

It is one of the most monumental days of your life and you want to share it with one of the most influential people in your life, your mum.

Libby Rieck and her fiancé Andy Wright were engaged in October 2017 and planning to have their wedding in September this year.

Libby’s mother Trish Rieck, had a rare cancer and was receiving end of life care at the Ipswich Hospital’s Palliative Care Unit.

The newly wedded Mrs Wright’s said it was Andy’s decision.

“He said ‘we’re going to get married tomorrow’,” Mrs Wright said.

As soon as the couple heard their celebrant was available the next day Mrs Wright rushed out to buy her mum a new mother-of-the-bride outfit.

The ceremony was an intimate wedding in the hospital’s chapel with their closest family.

Mrs Wright wore a wedding gown she tried on for the first time that day.

The first of her four siblings to get married, it was a special moment for all to cherish.

“It was so special to be there with mum and also with dad, who said he couldn’t imagine our wedding day without her there.

“It meant the world to have her there, to have her smiling in the photos, it was just amazing to share that.

“You never imagine your mum might pass away before you get the chance to get married. You think you are going to have another 30 years together,” Mrs Wright said.

Trish Rieck passed away on the 23 January 2018.
