New website unlocks vast trove of property information

Every Ipswich property revelead on iKnow

Access to individual property information as it relates to the Ipswich Planning Scheme is now available through a new Ipswich City Council website.

Previously, mapping for development information was limited to the functionality offered by the PD Online website which is restricted to viewing a single layer at any one time.

The new iKnow website overcomes this limitation which can be important when considering development assessment and planning issues use multiple layers of information.

The mapping produced from PD Online was often not fit for purpose in the preparation of development applications or not easily interpreted to inform property purchasers or landowners.

Ipswich City Council has answered the call with a vast amount of detail and information on every property now available on its new website.

The new interactive site reveals a host of new details including –

Road names
House numbers
Electoral boundaries
Planning scheme zoning

Users can search deeper for planning scheme overlays which include information that may constrain development, such as –

Bushfire risk
Overland flow paths
Difficult topography
Noise from RAAF Amberley aircraft

Importantly, users can layer information and make certain information transparent to help in the analysis of individual properties and areas.

The site has the capability to take the user anywhere within the local government area within seconds through a search, or through navigation.

It also offers historical aerial images back to 1994.

Council expects the main users of the site will include home buyers, real estate agents, developers and investors.

After listening to the concerns of customers and the community Ipswich City Council has delivered a vastly improved service though the new website which is very similar in capability to the internal mapping tools used by its staff.

The Innovation and Improvement Fund offered assistance with the project.

This valuable new tool is expected to evolve over time to include more data and council is open to suggestions on additional information or user interface improvements.

In the future, council will be also seeking to improve the development application information presented on the web site to make it easier for customers and the community to access information.

Ipswich City Council is very proud of its team of staff who have worked together to deliver these significant improvements.

The new iKnow website can be viewed here.
