Queensland reports 8 new cases of COVID-19

Queensland has recorded eight new confirmed cases of COVID-19, with all of them connected to known cases.

Five of the eight are connected to the Queensland Correctional Services training academy cluster.

They are members of the same family from one household and were already in quarantine when they were diagnosed.

The other three are related to the Ipswich hospital cluster, including two health care workers who were already in quarantine.

The third case is the child of one of the two health care workers and is a Year 11 student at St Edmund’s College in Ipswich.

St Edmund’s College is currently closed to carry out a deep clean, following the student’s confirmed case of COVID-19 on Tuesday.

Principal Ray Celegato said the college is expected to be closed for the rest of the week as Queensland Health carries out contact tracing.

“The number of students who are likely to have been exposed is quite low,” Mr Celegato said

“We’re fortunate that we’re in year 11 exam block so the student would have only been coming in for his exams.

“We are following Queensland Health advice and we have made the decision to deep-clean the entire campus.”

Queensland has a total of 29 active cases, after four people recently recovered.

Queensland Health has expanded its list of venues where confirmed COVID-19 cases have visited. It includes:

Karalee – Coles – 4 September 2020 – Between 9:30am – 10:15am
Raceview – Ipswich Garden Centre – 4 September 2020 – Between 12:30pm – 1:30pm

Anyone who has been to these locations at the times specified should monitor their health and if they develop any COVID-19 symptoms, even mild, get tested and isolate until they receive their test result.

12,075 tests have been conducted in Queensland in the past 24 hours.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk urged more people to come forward.

“Remember, if you have symptoms get tested, stay at home and do not go to work,” she said.

“I urge everybody to remember to practice social distancing because we are not out of the woods yet.

“But, if we stick together we will get through this together.”
