Untangle your Christmas lights and dust off your decorations – entries are about to open for the annual City of Ipswich Christmas Lights Competition presented by Narellan Pools Ipswich.
Ipswich Mayor Teresa Harding said residents are invited to deck the halls and decorate their homes and businesses in time to enter the popular competition.
“The City of Ipswich Christmas Lights Competition brings festive cheer to our community, with some of the most awe-inspiring displays popping up across Ipswich,” Mayor Harding said.
“The opening of the Christmas lights competition is a wonderful tradition in our city and is a precursor to the highly anticipated Christmas in Ipswich program, which will be unwrapped next month.
“This year, entries will open at 9am on Friday 30 October and will close at 9am on 27 November.
“Christmas in Ipswich is one of our city’s most beloved celebrations, bringing neighbours, friends and families together to take in stunning displays, enjoy carolling, hunt down presents at handmade markets and more.”
Mayor Harding said entry to the City of Ipswich Christmas Lights Competition is once again free and simple.
“The prize pool is incredible this year, with winners sharing in over $11,000 worth of prizes and cash,” Mayor Harding said.
“All entrants also automatically go into the Lucky Entrant draw, where 15 winners will each receive a $100 Cinema gift card thanks to Event Cinemas Springfield.
“And the popular People’s Choice Award is back again this year, and voting will be open online from 1 to 9 December.
“I look forward to winners being announced at 6pm on Friday 11 December at the opening night of St Nicholas Precinct.”
There are five competition categories this year:
- Best Residential presented by STRUD
- Best Business/Organisation presented by General Public Ipswich
- Best Street presented by Stockland Providence
- Best New Entry presented by G.J. Gardener Homes
- People’s Choice presented by She’s My Broker
Last year’s Best Residential Winner Kym Smart-Watkins said the time and effort that went into creating the display was made worthwhile by the smiles, excitement and memories made with the community.
“It has been eight wonderful years, and I’d like to express my heartfelt thanks to those who supported Mahogany Street Christmas lights in Raceview,” Smart-Watkins said.
“We were humbled by the support we received becoming a part of Christmas traditions. I encourage all residents who are thinking of participating in the competition to give it a go.”
Voting for the People’s Choice Award will be open online from 1 to 9 December and winners will be announced at opening of St Nicholas Precinct on Friday 11 December at 6pm.
The City of Ipswich Christmas Lights Competition is delivered with the support of the following partners: Narellan Pools Ipswich, Energex, STRUD, G.J. Gardner Homes, Stockland Providence, She’s My Broker, General Public Ipswich, Event Cinemas Ipswich, and Premier Transport.
