Reward for information on Ebbw Vale Memorial Honour Statue vandalism

Ipswich City Council is offering a reward of up to $2,000 for information that leads to the conviction of or finding of guilt in relation to vandalism of the Ebbw Vale Memorial Honour Statue.

The damaged statue, which depicts a life-sized World War I Digger, was discovered on the morning of 8 May 2026, with the vandalism likely occurring overnight.

Division 3 Councillor Andrew Antoniolli said he hopes the reward will help the investigation into the incident.

“Ipswich City Council condemns the vandalism of the Ebbw Vale Memorial Honour Statue,” Cr Antoniolli said.

“This incident has caused distress in our community, particularly to those in the veteran and serving communities, including those that don’t have a final resting place for their loved ones who fought and died for Australia.

“This sort of behaviour is unacceptable and anyone responsible must be brought to justice and council is doing its part by offering this reward.

“The reward will be backdated to 15 May 2026, and information received from or after that date will be eligible for the reward.

“Council is not equipped to deal with tips relating to crime, so I urge anyone who has information or footage of the incident to come forward to Crime Stoppers by calling 1800 333 000.

“Council is still exploring appropriate reinstatement options for the statue, and decision will be made at a future council meeting.”
