SPARK Ipswich calling local artists, performers and musicians

Ipswich artist Wild Eyed Wonder performed at SPARK Ipswich last year.

Council is now accepting Expressions of Interest (EOI) from artists for its annual art and culture festival, SPARK Ipswich, which will be held in locations across the city from July 6 to 16 2023.

Since its launch in 2021, SPARK Ipswich has consistently delivered an innovative program of events, with audience favourites including WOMI (World of Music Ipswich), Little Day Out, SPARK after DARK and SPARK on Tour.

Community, Culture, Arts and Sport Committee Chair Councillor Andrew Fechner said planning for the 2023 festival is well underway and is promising to be a celebration of the diverse and dynamic art and performance scene in Ipswich.

“As part of the program, we are seeking visual artists and performers of all genres, including painters, projection artists, sculptors, dancers, musicians, and performance artists, to be a part of the festival and help make it an unforgettable experience for everyone involved,” Cr Fechner said.

“All local artists, including First Nations artists, artists from diverse cultures and artists with disability are encouraged to apply.

“The festival provides a unique opportunity for artists with a connection to the Ipswich region to showcase their talents to a wide audience, network with other artists, and connect with the local community.”

SPARK Ipswich is an 11-day city-wide event celebrating the people, places, arts and culture of Ipswich.

Stay tuned for festival updates by following Ipswich Festivals Facebook and Instagram.

The latest call for EOIs from local artists follows the recent selection of First Nations artist Jennifer Kent as the SPARK Ipswich 2023 festival official branding artist.

“Selecting the official branding artist for the festival was a difficult decision for the panel given the high calibre of artists involved,” Cr Fechner said.

“The panel was impressed not only by Jennifer’s fabulous body of work but her accompanying story depicting SPARK as an event that brings light and joy to the community and draws people from near and far.”

To express interest in inclusion in the festival program, artists can visit the Ipswich Festivals website to complete the form, selecting any relevant opportunities that apply.

Artists can also request help to register their interest by emailing events@ipswich.qld.gov.au

Ipswich Festivals will review all submissions and match opportunities to artists who may be suitable for inclusion in the festival.

Expressions of Interest close 31 March 2023.
