SPARK your Festival Fitness through ARTiculate workshops

A popular series of workshops for Ipswich’s emerging and established creatives is continuing throughout August, offering more upskilling opportunities for local artists to turn their talent into profit.

ARTiculate, curated as part of council’s Creative Industries Action Plan and featuring expert local and internationally-established facilitators, has been designed to provide the Ipswich creative scene with the resources and skills they need to thrive.

Community, Culture, Arts and Sport Committee Chairperson Councillor Andrew Fechner said council knows Ipswich is brimming with creative talent but understands the challenge of turning that talent into an income.

“ARTiculate workshops have been crafted to help creatives learn how they can earn from their art and develop winning proposals that can secure grant funding,” Cr Fechner said.

“Since May, eight workshops have covered a range of tailored and beneficial topics from grant writing to social media management – but we’re not done yet!

“Following the success of the SPARK Ipswich Festival, our next workshop will feature creative producer Angie Dunbavan from Red Chair who will be aiming to boost our artistic community’s ‘festival fitness’.

“At this workshop, participants will learn what producers look for when programming festivals such as SPARK Ipswich and how to best complete expressions of interest to be involved.

“Writing compelling applications and expressions of interest can be an artform in itself, and this workshop will arm local creatives with the knowledge and tools they need to get this crucial element right.”

Local artist Andrea Baumert Howard has attended multiple workshops in the ARTiculate series and said they have been invaluable.

“I am so grateful these workshops have been made available to us and have really enjoyed learning from the facilitators while getting to know other creatives in the community,” Ms Howard said.

“The next workshop I have signed up to is called ‘Teach Your Craft’, where I am looking forward to learning how to offer classes to people who want to explore their visual arts talent.

“I would encourage anyone who is interested in turning their creative passions into a livelihood to get involved in ARTiculate and see where the new or improved skills might take you.”

The workshops are open to Ipswich creatives from all backgrounds and experience levels, with new workshops being added to the schedule each month.
