Sports field lighting damaged in flood-impacted areas of Ipswich

A small number of Ipswich sporting fields and facilities utilised under permit by clubs have been affected by flooding, resulting in disruption to practice and scheduled games.

Ipswich Mayor Teresa Harding said council is helping the city’s sports clubs get back on track following the devastating February flood but there will be some delays to sport field lighting due to the extent of damage.

“We are currently providing sport field lighting on 99 fields and courts spread over 31 venues across Ipswich. However, 11 venues were severely impacted by the recent flood and remain out of order and unplayable,” Mayor Harding said.

“Crews have been able to bring one of those eleven venues back online and hopefully another one by early next week.

“Unfortunately, we are expecting a minimum of four-to-six weeks delay on most of the others.

“Council’s focus remains on actively assisting clubs recover equipment, relocate where necessary, and restore field and clubhouse condition so that activity can recommence as soon as practical.

“For those clubs who have lost access to clubhouses and associated amenities, pro-rata fee relief will be provided and for those fields that are inaccessible or unable to be used due to flood inundation will not be charged for field use.”
