Ipswich City Council’s Environmental Weed Control Rebate is changing.

The rebate, funded through Ipswich Enviroplan, is designed to assist private landowners with the costs associated with controlling environmental weeds on their property.

It will continue to cover 50 per cent of the costs of contractor works or herbicide purchase, up to a maximum eligible rebate amount.

Hoever from September 15, the list of weeds eligible will be reduced to four species, including Lantana, Cat’s Claw Creeper, Asparagus Fern and Chinese Elm.

Applications for the rebate must be approved by Council before work commences. See Council’s website or call the Applications Team on (07) 3810 6666 for assistance.

  1. My neighbours have a huge Chinese Elm that spreads seed all over our garden. Why is that allowed to stay there and grow?

    1. I have a Chinese elm in the backyard that is probably over 100 years old. It has provided shade from the summer heat and endless family gatherings for four generations of my family. It overhangs my neighbour’s yard. He has lived in the house for 95 years. He sprays any seedlings that bob up every year. He has not complained in the 60 years that I have known him.

Should I be compelled to chop it down, Ms du Prie?
