Health services in Ipswich continue to expand with St Andrew’s Ipswich Private Hospital recently opening a new Renal Dialysis Unit.

The unit is part of a $64 million upgrade to the hospital and will allow patients to receive treatment close to home six days a week.

It is the first private Renal Dialysis Unit in the region.

Renal dialysis is a treatment that helps kidneys continue to function when they have stopped working properly.

It removes salt and waste from the body, maintains a safe level of chemicals in the blood and keeps blood pressure in check.

The new unit at St Andrew’s has six comfortable treatment recliner chairs, TVs and a kitchenette for guest use.

Experienced nephrologists assist in the renal unit to handle the care of patients using Baxter dialysis machines.

The new Renal Dialysis Unit is the latest in a string of openings at the upgraded St Andrew’s Ipswich Private Hospital.

The hospital kicked off its largest redevelopment project in more than 100 years in 2017, with completed elements opening throughout 2018.

In April, the hospital opened its new front entrance, multi-deck car park and new private rooms.

In August, a new private Emergency Department was opened. Its opening coincided with the opening of a new Intensive Care Unit, two theatres and sterilising department, 81 patient rooms to take total capacity from 97 to 178 beds, three birthing suites and a retail pharmacy.

In September, a redesigned Rehabilitation Ward opened with gymnasium as well as kitchen, dining room and laundry space for improved patient comfort during rehabilitation.

St Andrew’s Ipswich Private Hospital is at 12 Roderick Street, Ipswich.
