$1.6m bikeway continues Ipswich investment in cycling

Hit the road and discover the $1.6m Goodna Creek Bikeway Stage 3, opening at Redbank Plains in May.

The bikeway from Redbank Plains Road to Farmer Court continues the development of Ipswich’s cycle network and was joint funded by council and the State Government.

It will eventually link Redbank Train Station and Redbank Plaza Shopping Centre with nearby residential suburbs and Redbank Plains Recreation Reserve.

Goodna Creek Bikeway is part of the Queensland Government’s Principal Cycle Network Plan and council’s iGO Active Transport Action Plan.

Ipswich infrastructure spokeswoman Councillor Cheryl Bromage said works included installing a new 3m wide shared path, raised priority crossing points, three culvert crossings, lighting and a bike repair station.

“It provides a safe pathway for pedestrians and cyclists, separate from vehicular traffic and there are plans to extend it further in the future,” she said.

Division 3 Councillor Kerry Silver welcomed the new bikeway in Redbank Plains.

“It takes cyclists away from the very busy Redbank Plains Road and other surrounding streets and enables them to ride safely and directly through parkland,” Cr Silver said.

Member for Bundamba Jo-Ann Miller said the Queensland Government was committed to improving the safety and accessibility of the transport network for cyclists.

“These works are a part of our Cycle Network Local Government Grants program that aims to help local governments to deliver best practice, high quality and safe cycling infrastructure and facilities,” Mrs Miller said.

“We know that, on average, every dollar we invest in cycling infrastructure will return nearly five dollars in economic benefit to Queensland with improved health outcomes, reduced traffic congestion, and lower transport costs.”
