1.10pm. Most products are back to pre-COVID-19 levels including toilet paper

Woolworths have reported that customers are becoming increasingly adventurous.

Ingredients such as cardamom, saffron and dried sesame seeds have doubled in sales.

Roasted peppers are up 65%, Asian and hot chilli sauces are both up 40% and capers are up 35%.

As demand has eased, product limits on essentials like rice, pasta sauce, noodles, cleaning products, sugar and eggs have been lifted.

On the critical issue of toilet paper, sales dropped by 4 million rolls last week, now below the sales of the corresponding week last year.

This week Woolworths are on track to sell between 9m and 9.5m rolls, well down on the peak of 39.7 million rolls a week in mid-March or 11m rolls this time last year.

Coles are expanding their trading hours, welcoming everyone to shop from 7am after the final Community Hour for elderly and vulnerable customers is wrapping up after seven weeks.

Coles Chief Operations Officer Matt Swindells said Coles Community Hour had been very popular with eligible shoppers, but now that demand for groceries and product availability were returning to more normal levels it was time to welcome all customers back whenever stores were open.

“Our number one priority remains the health and safety of customers and our team members,” he said.

“As the government begins to look at easing restrictions, customers should remember that appropriate safety practices will still apply and ask all customers to support with the same amazing collaboration we’ve seen in the past few weeks.”

Although some restrictions around visiting have changed, it is not always possible to visit close friends and family, especially if they live overseas, interstate or a long distance away.

Checking in and maintaining regular social interactions with those you can’t see right now is really important for their mental wellbeing and yours too.
