Australia Post CEO outlines plans for Ipswich

Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Australia Post, Christine Holgate, has outlined her commitment to keep Australia Post services within the Ipswich CBD during a visit to the city.

Ms Holgate was in Ipswich last week to visit the Australia Post outlet at Tower Central and meet with local politicians and business owners, including Ipswich City Mall Newsagent Pauline Williamson.

Australia Post services will start to roll out at the Ipswich City Mall Newsagency before Christmas.

Ms Holgate said the partnership with the newsagency was a great fit, and would be a huge win Ms Williamson’s business.

“We’re determined to revitalise our community post office network and we know that people want to keep services local,” Ms Holgate said.

“Overall the post office part of the network has seen 4.5 per cent growth, with licensed post offices up 7.7 per cent.”

Newsagent Pauline Williamson said she was thrilled to be joining forces with Australia Post services and looked forward to seeing her business turn around.

“I’m looking forward to a long, happy and healthy relationship with Australia Post,” Ms Williamson said.

“I want to stay here until I’m at least 90 so I’m looking forward to seeing things change after struggling for so long.”

The Australia Post CEO was also joined by Federal Member for Blair, Shayne Neumann, and Member for Ipswich, Jennifer Howard, for a tour of the Nicholas St Redevelopment.

“It’s great to get out here and see what’s happening in the city,” Ms Holgate said.

Her visit comes after the opening of the $240 million Australia Post parcel sorting centre at Redbank.

The facility at Redbank, which is the size of eight football fields, can process as many as 700,000 parcels a day.

“It’s the largest parcel sorting centre in the Southern hemisphere,” Ms Holgate said.

“It’s delivered over 500 jobs and it’s great that that investment is happening here.”
