Councillors’ register of interests now easy to find

IPSWICH councillors’ Register of Interests are now more easily accessible on the Ipswich City Council website. The website update meets another commitment made by newly-elected mayor Andrew Antoniolli.

He said in fewer than 10 weeks significant progress had been made in implementing the independent Governance Review.

“The full review was published online last month. It is the gold standard we are aiming for.

“We are certainly on track to achieve all 19 recommendations for improved transparency and governance.

“I expect most will be in place relatively quickly and certainly before the end of this year.

“One of the key recommendations is for Committee meeting agendas and all officers’ reports to be published online.

“This has now been implemented and will continue in the future,” he said.

The Governance Review recommended:

  • A new Code of Conduct for councillors.
  • A higher degree of accountability between council officers and elected representatives.
  • Greater transparency around Divisional Allocations, internal auditing procedure and risk mitigation.
  • Open publication of Registers of Interest for councillors, reports considered by council committees, and all current policies.
  • More detailed recording of potential conflicts of interest.
  • Tighter policies around procurement, allowances and planning.
  • Improved guidelines around reporting procedure, training and committee procedure.

“We are delivering on the promise of a new era for Ipswich City Council.”
