Creative ‘promposal’ lands Ipswich students on Today show

Two Year 12 students from Springfield’s St Peters Lutheran College have become breakfast TV show hits after their ‘promposal’  went viral.

Seventeen-year-old Zac Hyde pulled out all the stops to ask his friend Hope Wilson to the Year 12 formal, recreating iconic movie scenes to win Ms Wilson over.

Mr Hyde was filmed at school leaping from seat to seat singing ‘I Love You Baby’ reminiscent of Heath Ledger in the movie 10 Things I Hate About You.

He then switched to another rom-com favourite, Love Actually, and wrote messages on a series of cards which ended with, “You could go to formal with a guy like this”.

Appearing on the Today show on Thursday morning, the high schoolers confirmed Mr Hyde’s extravagant invitation was successful.

“I could tell she [Ms Wilson] wanted something a bit bigger than normal,” Mr Hyde said.

“So I went online and did some research and I found those great ideas from those movies, so I combined them into a couple ideas over a week, so that’s how it happened.”

Ms Wilson told Today hosts Karl Stefanovic and Allison Langdon that her friend’s Heath Ledger impersonation was a highlight.

“I think my favourite moment was definitely the Heath Ledger moment,” she said.

“It’s one of my favourite movies so seeing him get up and dance and sing in front of our whole cohort was just amazing to watch.”

Beyond their Year 12 formal, the pair are looking forward to heading to university next year. Ms Wilson hopes to study medicine, while Mr Hyde has his sights set on law.
