Event Details

Ipswich Libraries, together with Brett Leavy, invites all First Nations people and interested community members to be part of an exciting new project for the community.

Brett, an Aboriginal digital artist, cultural historian and descendant of the Kooma people of Western Queensland, is working with Ipswich Libraries to create a 3D representation of the local Ipswich area to immerse users within a virtual landscape as it would have been in 1826.

However, he needs help. He needs local knowledge of culture, language and place of traditional activities, like meeting places, fishing holes, gathering locations and hunting grounds to make this a truly engaging, authentic and local guided experience.

Brett will be visiting Ipswich Central Library to share the basic framework of the project and gather any and all contributions from the community. At this event, participants can:

• See a large scale map of the local area in 1826.

• Immerse yourself in a virtual landscape of 1826 using Oculus Quest.

• Share your knowledge of significant places, landmarks and language.

• Sign up for regular updates on the project’s progress.

No registration required.
