Since Remembrance Day, Sunday 11th November, 2011, when IPSWICH MUSICAL THEATRE COMPANY first staged SONGS THAT WON THE WAR especially written for that performance by Clive Render, it has become a tradition to stage the show each year on the Sunday closest to Remembrance Day, in the historic Old Courthouse on the corner of East & Roderick Streets, Ipswich.
We are excited to announce that Sophie Salvesani, who is currently performing the principal role, Maria, in Opera Australia’s 2019 touring production of WEST SIDE STORY, will be home on recreational leave in November and will sing in SONGS THAT WON THE WAR. Sophie will sing We’ll Gather Lilacs and Some Day My Heart Will Awake. With Opera Australia, Sophie has this year performed in WEST SIDE STORY in Melbourne, Wellington (NZ), Berlin, Dresden & Cologne (Germany), Sydney Opera House, Canberra and will finish the year in Adelaide. Major roles Sophie performed with Ipswich Musical Theatre Company were: Christine in The Phantom 2014 of the Opera and Cosette in Les Miserables 2017.
