Five reasons not to miss Heart & Soul Festival at Ripley

Note: An earlier version of this story listed item number 5 as fireworks to end the night. Given current fire conditions and in the interest of community safety, the fireworks will no longer be held. This decision was made in consultation with Queensland Fire and Emergency Services.

1. Entry is free and it’s family friendly

This is the fourth year of the Providence Heart & Soul Festival. It’s a free, family friendly event on Saturday 21 September from 4pm to 9pm.

For the first time since its inception, the festival has been organised by Providence Community Group. The group is not for profit and run by a dedicated group of local volunteers whose aim is to create a welcoming and inclusive community to all in the Ripley Valley.

2. Stars from The Voice will be live on stage

More than five hours of live music performances are booked for this year’s Heart & Soul Festival, with high profile The Voice stars Chriddy Black and Jordy Marcs the headline acts.

Chriddy Black, a 26-year-old truck driver from the Gold Coast, was a fan favourite on The Voice before being bundled out in the battle rounds. Jordy Marcs impressed with his performances on the show with his unique take on blues and rock earning him plenty of fans.

These two high profile performers will be joined by local artists Wild Eyed Wonder, Jukebox Party Band and Kelsey Berrington.

3. You can get your thrill on with rides

A good selection of rides has been booked for this year’s event so whether you feel adventurous or prefer things to be a little slower there is something for you – and the children.

Rides locked in include the Super Sizzler, an inflatable slide, rockwall climb, Para Trooper, jumping castle and a tried and true favourite in the merry-go-round.

Ride arm bands will cost $20 per person on the day for unlimited rides or can be purchased online ahead of the festival for $15 per person, plus a booking fee, at https://www.facebook.com/events/428521894453431/

4. There will be delicious food

What’s a festival without delicious food? There will be a wide selection of food trucks and stalls available on the day including hamburgers, dagwood dogs, churros, pancakes, Hungarian langos, calamari, Italian hot meals, potato swirls, wood fired pizzas, sushi, fairy floods, cupcakes and a range of refreshing drinks.

5. You will be supporting locals

The Heart & Soul Festival has been organised by community members involved in the Providence Community Group, with the support of developer Okeland Communities.

Group vice president and festival organiser Maalikah Jones said community was front and centre for organisers.

“Living here since 2016, I love how family friendly the community is and wanted to show all our guests what the true Providence values are all about,” she said.
