Historic jacaranda trees along Brisbane Terrace are in bloom and Evan Marginson Park is lined with purple in clear signs the Goodna Jacaranda Festival is just around the corner.
Division 2 Councillor Paul Tully said with the warmer start to spring, the suburb’s iconic trees had been in bloom for several weeks as the community counted down to this year’s festival on 24 and 25 October.
“The trees along Brisbane Terrace have once again heralded spring and the coming of the Goodna Jacaranda Festival,” Cr Tully said.
“Several of the iconic trees along Brisbane Terrace and Woogaroo Street date back to 1932 when they were planted by work gangs during the Great Depression as a way to create employment.
“They are a wonderful testament to the resilience and strength of the Goodna community during one of our country’s most challenging times and have stood strong with the suburb through the years.
“Many of the trees have stood strong through the floods of 1955, 1974 and 2011.
“In recent years, the heritage trees have been complemented by new plantings throughout the suburb to ensure purple reigns supreme each spring in Goodna for many years to come.”
Deputy Mayor and Division 2 Councillor Nicole Jonic said the community was in for a bloomin’ marvellous time at this year’s two-day Goodna Jacaranda Festival at Evan Marginson Park.
“The Goodna Jacaranda Festival is an iconic and enduring Ipswich community event,” Deputy Mayor Jonic said.
“It is a celebration of community, colour and culture enjoyed not only by Ipswich residents but also visitors from across South East Queensland.
“Council is proud to once again support the festival with Community Events funding of $5,000 as well as $8,783.65 worth of in-kind support to help with portable toilets, traffic cones and bollards.”
This 2025 Goodna Jacaranda Festival program includes sideshow alley, performances by local musicians and school students as well as food trucks, market and community stalls and fireworks.
Goodna Jacaranda Festival president Mathew Taylor said it was a true community event.
“Community is at the heart of the Goodna Jacaranda Festival,” Mr Taylor said.
“This year’s festival will be held over two days beginning at 4pm on Friday 24 October with a lively opening night featuring live music, market stalls, amusement rides and delicious food trucks.
“The excitement continues into Saturday 25 October with a full day of entertainment including more live performances, cultural displays, community showcases, artisan markets, children’s activities and much more.”
