Funding extended to rural areas of Ipswich

Transforming John Street Rosewood moved a step closer this week with council applying for $1.8 million in funding from the Australian Government’s Better Regions Program.

Previously Ipswich was excluded from applying for funding under this program while the Gold Coast was eligible.

Ipswich mayor and Works, Park and Sports Committee chairperson Cr Andrew Antoniolli welcomed the correction of funding inconsistency and said it would mean new projects proposed in Division 10 and rural townships now qualified for funding.

“We’re excited to have the opportunity to put forward submissions for the $3.6 million John Street Rosewood transformation project, Ipswich Street Grandchester sealing and widening, a proposed Brisbane Valley Rail Trail mountain bike marathon and Little Liverpool Range conservation measures,” Cr Antoniolli said.

Division 10 councillor David Pahlke said John Street had plenty of local character and untapped potential.

“Council previously called for ideas and suggestions from residents and businesses to help shape the future of the heart of Rosewood. This became the Transforming John Street project,” Cr Pahlke said.

“Ipswich will also work in partnership with neighbouring councils to implement important conservation measures in the Little Liverpool Range and seek funding of $30,000 from the fund towards a project cost of $60,000.”

Council will know if its funding applications were successful when the Better Regions Fund announces allocations in the first half of 2018.
