Grants assist with delivery of community infrastructure and services

Council will deliver its capital and operational programs for 2022-2023 with the support of State and Federal funding.

Council expects to receive more than $38 million in grant funding during the financial year from various State and Federal funding programs, including a sizeable contribution from Queensland Reconstruction Authority grants for flood reconstruction works.

Governance and Transparency Committee Chairperson Deputy Mayor Councillor Jacob Madsen said the funding would help council deliver for the community.

“Our community took a heavy hit earlier this year during the two flood events, and while we have spent more than $5 million to date on flood recovery, this figure is expected to substantially increase in the months ahead,” Cr Madsen said.

“Our community is growing rapidly, and council actively works with our State and Federal counterparts to ensure that the city of Ipswich is accessing all opportunities that are available to us.

“In the 2022-2023 Budget, we anticipate revenue from grants will be about $38 million, or 8 per cent of council’s total revenue.”

The expected $38 million in grant funding includes money for existing council-run programs such as the Home Assist Service and local libraries as well as capital works projects.

Key programs to receive grant funding in the 2022-2023 financial year include:

  • Ironbark Park Ripley Clubhouse – new changerooms and amenities – $1.5 million

  • Home Assist Program – $1.5 million
  • Smiths Road and Albert Street, Goodna intersection upgrade – $413,000
  • Immunisation program – $298,000
  • Flood resilience work on the Bremer River – $120,000
  • Roderick Street and Waghorn Street intersection upgrade – $104,000
  • Ishmael Road and Dale Road, Camira intersection upgrade – $97,000

“Council is always keen to work with all levels of government, regardless of their political persuasion, to achieve the best outcomes for the Ipswich community,” Cr Madsen said.

“We appreciate the ongoing support and look forward to delivering the programs and works associated with these grants throughout the coming financial year.”
