The curtain at the Ipswich Civic Centre will rise again on Tuesday 26 April 2022.
The Ipswich Civic Centre was forced to temporarily close for a number of weeks recently as it underwent repairs and restoration work due to damage caused by recent severe weather.
Community, Culture, Arts and Sport Committee Chairperson Councillor Andrew Fechner said the city’s premier entertainment and function venue will reopen after work had been carried out, in time for some exciting upcoming shows and performances.
“We are thrilled the repair work at the Civic Centre has been undertaken so quickly and on time, so the Civic Centre is able to once again provide a variety of events to the community including the gripping MEDEA production on the 26 April and the wonderful Anh Do on 14 May,” Cr Fechner said.
MEDEA is a stylised, minimalist production combining conventions of traditional Greek Tragedy, Epic Theatre, Physical Theatre and multiple roles playing, to deliver an intense and mesmerising experience accompanied by a thumping soundtrack.
Anh Do’s show the Happiest Refugee Live, is a must see show that is an incredible, inspirational and up lifting true story of Anh and his family’s journey to Australia.
Many shows, performances and events that were postponed due to the weather event and subsequent repair work at the Ipswich Civic Centre, have now been rescheduled.
Councillor Fechner said the Ipswich Civic Centre team has been working hard behind the scenes to navigate the impacts to our valued audience members and guests.
“Unfortunately, with the temporary closure of the Civic Centre, 14 events were affected and had to be postponed, moved or cancelled,” Cr Fechner said.
“All requested refunds have been issued and new tickets sent to ticket purchasers.
“We are pleased that we were able to reschedule the majority of the shows affected and we want to thank the community for their understanding and patience as we worked through the show and ticket changes during this unscheduled closure.”
New dates for rescheduled shows at the Ipswich Civic Centre:
- 26 April: MEDEA
- 6 and 7 May: PRISCILLA Queen of the Desert
- 31 May: World of Musicals
- 9 July: Creedence Clearwater Collective
- 3 July: Showmen – The Ultimate Magic Spectacular
- 4 November: 50 Years On! Queen Bohemian Rhapsody
Covid restrictions have also eased. Guests no longer need to check in or show their vaccination status upon arrival.
While not mandated, Ipswich Civic Centre will continue with additional cleaning of its venues to protect the community.
