Ipswich’s population is climbing towards a new milestone as steady growth continues across the city.
The city gained an extra 7,005 residents in the past financial year, recording a 3.16 per cent increase and bringing the total population of Ipswich to 228,544. The statistics were released in Ipswich City Council’s Planning and Regulatory Services’ Annual Report Card.
Mayor Teresa Harding said that the new figures came as no surprise, as a growing number of people start to recognise the lifestyle benefits of living in Ipswich.
“Ipswich is one of the most liveable regions in Queensland. Our beautiful parks and natural areas, world-class heritage sites and vibrant local restaurant scene attract a diverse range of new residents every day.” Mayor Harding said.
“This Council understands how important it is to gear-up for continued growth across Ipswich.
“We are committed to delivering quality services to all of our residents, but we cannot support this growth on our own.
“Our growing communities will require new infrastructure and services and this Council is committed to ensuring both the State and Federal governments understand the current and future investment opportunities.”
A total of 2,495 new dwellings were built across the city over the period, from 1 July 2019 to 30 June 2020.
Spring Mountain remained the fastest growing suburb for a second year, with 1,247 new residents and 442 new dwellings in the year to 30 June 2020.
Redbank Plains recorded 900 new residents and 394 new dwellings, while South Ripley added an extra 704 residents and 231 new dwellings.
Ripley and Deebing Heights were the other hotspots for growth in the city.
The Planning and Regulatory Services’ Report Card provides a snapshot of development activity and population growth across the city, including land subdivision, building works and applications for planning, building and plumbing.
1,749 lots were created, while a further 1,147 lots were approved over the past financial year.
Quarterly results showed that 628 new dwellings were built across Ipswich between April and June, compared to 501 new dwellings from January to March.

The recreational area about to be built in Redbank Plains need to replicated throughout our great city of Ipswich.
